Welcome & Whiteboard Ideas

Welcome to my Science for Kids Blog- one of my 2013 New Year’s Resolutions fulfilled YAY!! I wish I could say that about my fitness resolutions but there is still time and hope for those! Please allow me to introduce myself: I’m Sue Cahalane and I am a happy mom, wife and science teacher who loves her job. I teach science to 200 wonderful little sweeties in grades PK 4. My classroom always has something fun going on and this blog will be where we can freely share ideas on science education.

I have a 12 foot long whiteboard in my classroom and realized one day that not only is it a visual mess, but I was only using about 1/2 of it on a daily basis:

So I bought some colorful borders, painted some happy birds and divided it up into sections. I now use every inch of the whiteboard:

There are 3 areas of the board that my students look forward to every week: “Science in the News” (general science news), “In the Sky” (astronomy news) and  “Did You Know” (fun science trivia).

It's the first thing they read at the start of each week - I love to see their curious minds at work!!  They read the posts and start talking about it right away with me and their friends. Great way to get the science conversation flowing in my classroom. I change the posts weekly and I’ll be sharing them here. Here are the titles which can be laminated as well as this week’s posts: click here for file.

I hope to share lots of fun science activities, lessons and printables with you! Until next time, thank you for stopping by!
