Chemistry for Kids & Beautiful Birds

We did some chemistry experiments last week - if my kids could do just chemistry all year long in science they would be the happiest campers!! They love mixing things up & seeing what happens. It is science discovery at its best! We make predictions & then everyone does their own experiment with a partner. I love using these test tubes, they are so big- great for little hands. Also- NO little fingers can get stuck in them (& yes that has happened to one of my little ones before I switched to the large test tubes! Tons of vaseline got it off her finger!)
We mixed together different amounts of vinegar and baking soda - they LOVED watching the chemical reaction occur!

Spring is officially here & we have our beautiful state bird visiting our classroom feeders again! My students LOVE to see the birds & they are getting so good at identifying them. The Eastern Goldfinch is the NJ state bird, here are 2 beautiful males I photographed:
We have the cutest Barn Swallows living at our school. They usually build cup-shaped mud nests in barns but we have an outdoor area at our school that is a favorite nesting area- it's a great bird-watching spot!
The robins have laid their eggs, I took a pic of this nest- look at that robin's egg blue! Gorgeous!

A spring freebie:
Happy birdwatching!
